David Zuckerman has been Research Associate since 2012 at the Democracy Collaborative, aUniversity of Maryland-based research center focused on promoting strategies for inclusive economicdevelopment. His research has focused on how community-based institutions, such as credit unions,hospitals and universities, can enhance local economic development and build broadly shared wealth and stability. In the course of his work, Zuckerman helped formulate an inclusive economic development project for the Washington metro area, collaborating with leaders in local government, as well as the business, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors. He is the author of Hospitals Building Healthier Communities: Embracing the Anchor Mission, which details how hospitals can support community wealth building and encourage the development of community-owned institutions, like cooperatives.
Zuckerman currently serves on the Board of Representatives for the Takoma Park-Silver Spring Co-op, a community-owned grocery store with more than $10 million in annual revenues. He received both his Master of Public Policy and B.A. degree in Government and Politics, graduating magna cum laude, from the University of Maryland, College Park. Zuckerman joined Lafayette in 2013 through his eligibility with the Takoma Park-Silver Spring Co-op.


Chris Bohner has worked on economic development, labor, community credit, and finance issues for over 20 years. He is a partner at Radish LLP, a Washington, DC-based firm that provides consulting and research to non-profits and worker organizations. Bohner’s financial background includes his tenure as a trustee (from 1997 to 2010) of a $1.5 billion pension fund (the Southern Nevada Culinary and Bartenders Pension Fund), serving over 87,000 participants. As Chairman of the Culinary and Bartenders Housing Partnership (until 2010), Bohner created a successful affordable housing fund for first-time homebuyers that has provided over 600 loans to participants since its inception. In addition, as a deputy director of UNITE HERE — a union with 250,000 members — Bohner conducted financial analyses of public companies and financial institutions as part of his job duties.
Bohner has also worked on a wide array of legislative and regulatory issues affecting banks and credit unions as a lead researcher at the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (until 2000). Bohner was also involved in early efforts to bring the first community development bank to Washington, DC.
Bohner received his M.A. in Political Science from York University, and his B.A. Degree in Philosophy from the George Washington University. Bohner has been a member of the Lafayette Federal Credit Union since February 2014. He qualifies through his District of Columbia residency. Bohner has lived in the District of Columbia for twenty years.
Both David Zuckerman and Chris Bohner have a strong desire to see Lafayette Federal Credit Union live up to its democratic potential, and to serve as a vehicle to fund a more equitable and sustainable economy.
